The Power of Gentle Support: Helping Your Shy Child Feel Brave in Their Own Way
One of the greatest gifts we can give a shy child? Permission to be themselves.
That might look like:
✨ Letting them observe before joining in.
✨ Not labeling them as “shy” in front of others.
✨ Offering small, safe opportunities to practice bravery (ordering ice cream, saying hello to a neighbor).
✨ Celebrating effort, not outcome.
When I wrote Grace and Waffles, I thought about how different my own childhood might have felt if I’d had someone like Waffles—quietly cheering me on, giving me courage one small step at a time.
Shy kids don’t need fixing. They need understanding, patience, and gentle encouragement.
With love, stories, and a sprinkle of courage,
