Every story has an origin, and I’m excited to share how Grace and Waffles came to be. As a quiet child myself, I faced the challenges of wanting to try new things but often being too afraid to step out of my comfort zone. That experience shaped me, and now, it’s part of the inspiration for Grace’s story.

Growing up, I was always that quiet kid who stayed on the sidelines. I would watch other children play, wishing I could join in, but I was just too scared. There were times I wanted to try new things, but fear and anxiety would hold me back. In many ways, Grace is a reflection of that part of my childhood.

Then, a furry friend entered my life—a playful poodle named Nyx. Nyx’s playful, loyal, and loving personality completely changed my world. I realized that having a companion, especially one like Nyx, gave me a sense of comfort and confidence I hadn’t felt before. That’s where the idea for Grace and Waffles was born.

Waffles, Grace’s new puppy, represents that special bond we can form with pets. It’s about more than just friendship—it’s about finding courage and love in unexpected places. Waffles helps Grace come out of her shell, much like Nyx has done for me in real life.

I hope that children who read Grace and Waffles will see that it’s okay to be quiet and reserved.
